There is something you should know...

If you have been reading along with my blog, you may have noticed that there is a lack of environmental enrichment products available for your cat. As a practicing veterinarian, this has been a constant frustration over the past 16 years. About 2 years ago, I asked myself, "Why doesn't someone make environmental enrichment products so that I can give my clients what our own science knows their cats need to be happy and healthy?" I quickly realized that the old adage was right -- if you want something done, you have to do it yourself.

My mission is to help cats everywhere with information and tools that are based in cutting edge veterinary medicine. Your cat's safety and happiness are my priority.

Veterinary Behaviorists have long understood that cats need to hunt for their food, not eat from bowls. For cats, food is only half of the mealtime equation. Cats need to nourish their instincts with hunting, while they nourish their bodies with food.

When cats are fed from a bowl, they are denied the ability to fulfill this instinct. Their bodies are often over nourished while their instincts are starved.

A cat's frustrated hunting instincts are commonly redirected into negative behaviors like obesity, vomiting, destructive behavior, inter-cat aggression and maybe even urinating outside of the litter box.

While veterinarians have known this for a long time, there has been no safe and effective way to help cats hunt inside of the home. From the cat's perspective, the ideal solution would be to release mice and lizards in the home to feed the cat's body and soul. From a human perspective, that it not a solution at all. Many veterinarians, myself included, offer temporary or partial fixes that treat the symptoms, but don't solve the problem. What could realistically be done?

I was so discouraged after years and years of knowing what cats needed but not having a way to help my patients, I invented the solution myself. My invention, The NoBowl Feeding System, is the safe, clean, easy way to bring back the hunt with the dry food that you are already feeding.

I consulted with the world’s leading feline veterinarians, veterinary nutritionists and veterinary behaviorists and then worked with an accomplished team of inventors and designers to create the indoor hunting system that will keep your cat happy and healthy.

I could really use your help to bring The NoBowl Feeding System to market. I am launching a Kickstarter campaign on Thursday March 10 at 7:30pm Eastern that will run for 30 days. This will help fund the project and make it a reality for cats everywhere. For more information, please see the product website at www.NoBowlCat.com

On this blog, I will continue to bring you veterinary quality feline information, answer your veterinary questions and love you and your cats.

Thank you for making this blog and caring for your cats such a special part of my life.

Sincerely,
Dr. Liz Bales, VMD

I have been told that wet food is necessary for a healthy diet that I cludes enough water. Any thoughts on a way to do a noboql solution with wet food?

Hi Minocho!
Simply feed a smaller portion of wet food. The remaining daily ration will be dry, and will be fed using The NoBowl Feeding System. In fact, cats need to crunch. Crunching and chewing their food helps to promote dental health and helps keep cats happy. Chewing is important! The action of chewing releases serotonin in the brain, which is the hormone responsible for relaxation and stress relief.
